Seiffert Oval Upgrades On Track For NRL Side Canberra Raiders Trial Games

Queanbeyan mayor Tim Overall "is hopeful" Seiffert Oval will host a National Rugby League side Canberra Raiders premiership match in the future, after declaring upgrades to the club's "spiritual home on track to be completed" for the Feb. 21 trial against Newcastle, according to Jon Tuxworth of the CANBERRA TIMES. About A$1.1M ($904,500) of government and council funding "has been devoted to bringing the dated facility up to scratch, including a playing surface upgrade, new irrigation system, electronic scoreboard, replacement grandstand seating and amenities." Work "is on track to be finished by mid-February, in time for the trial which the Raiders hope will attract a crowd of about 10,000" (CANBERRA TIMES, 12/15).
