Bundesliga To Implement Goal-Line Technology For First Time In '15

Goal-line technology will be "used in the German top flight for the first time next season after the clubs voted for its use on Thursday," according to Brian Homewood of REUTERS. The 18 top flight clubs, "who had turned it down one year ago, voted 15-3 in favour of adopting the technology following a proposal by Bayern Munich." German Football League (DFL) President Reinhard Rauball said, "I believe that this is a step forward for German football" (REUTERS, 12/4). ESPN's Stephan Uersfeld reported the DFL subsequently confirmed that "HawkEye, the technology already in use in the Premier League, will be introduced into the Bundesliga" from July 1. DFL Managing Dir Andreas Rettig said that the new system will cost less than €8,000 ($9,950) per Bundesliga match (ESPN, 12/4).

IN SPAIN: In Madrid, Marco Ruiz reported Real Madrid will use GoalControl-4D technology "for the first time" in its history when it competes in the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco this month. German company GoalControl is "currently installing the technology in the stadiums" in Rabat and Marrakesh where Real Madrid will play their matches. The GoalControl-4D system is "equipped with 14 ultra-fast cameras which are positioned around the pitch, with seven of them aimed at the goal-line" (AS, 12/3).
