Media Notes: Satellite Dispute Blocks German Coverage Of Handball World Cup 2015

German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have decided not to show the games of the World Men’s Handball Championship 2015 due to a "dispute regarding the channel's unencrypted availability" on satellite beyond German borders, which is "opposed by rights holder beIN Sports" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 12/2). ... Fox Int'l Channels has picked up a package of European football rights for the sub-Saharan Africa region. The rights include France's domestic club cup competition, the Coupe de France, and Italy's Serie B. Both agreements will "run for the remainder" of the '14-15 season (SOCCEREX, 12/2). ... Broadcasters interested in the Top 14 TV rights, which were "put back into play by the Paris appeals court" in early October, will submit their offers between Jan. 20-25. French National Rugby League (LNR) President Paul Goze said Tuesday the league will send out invitations to tender “before the end of the year, and probably before Christmas.” If the league is "satisfied by the offers received, the broadcaster(s) will be announced immediately after." The process, which follows the suspension of the contract signed between the LNR and French TV network Canal+, should be completed by March 31 (L’EQUIPE, 12/2).
