Fear Of Thunderstorms Looming Over V8 Supercars Sydney 500

Leading V8 Supercar drivers are predicting "chaos" for the Sydney 500 -- with "fears thunderstorms and heavy rain will turn the Homebush circuit into a metal graveyard," according to Nick Walshaw of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. The 2014 Supercar finale "could prove the year's most calamitous event should forecasts predicting three days of wild weather from Friday prove correct." Several drivers confirmed the Olympic Park street circuit "could see more carnage" than even in '10, when heavy rain meant "only 15 of 29 drivers finished." Nissan driver Michael Caruso: "If it rains expect chaos -- absolute chaos. This is already the hardest race of the year. You've got different street surfaces, marbles, grease and oil rising up, even painted white lines that become slippery." Jack Daniels driver Rick Kelly agreed, adding, "I can assure you no one wants to see rain. This is a track with concrete walls everywhere. You can go from first to last so easily." According to current forecasts, "thunderstorms are predicted for Homebush on Friday, with heavy rain then continuing to fall over the rest of the weekend" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 12/4).
