Media Notes: Türk Telekom Acquires Rights To UEFA Champions League

Türk Telekom "acquired broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europe League matches for three seasons" from the beginning of the '15-'16 season. A deal "was also inked with Turkey’s state-run TRT for the matches which must be broadcasted on free-of-charge channels in line with the protocols of UEFA" (HURRIYET DAILY NEWS, 11/26). ... Channel 4 awarded the production contract for its live coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games to Sunset+Vine. The award-winning sports production company will produce more than 200 hours of live coverage and highlights across the Rio Paralympics, which take place in Sept. '16 (Channel 4). ... Ligue 1 side Toulouse’s website "was hacked Thursday by an internet user who demanded that tartiflette be served at the stadium." The hacker, who goes by the name “yetinonymous,” posted a video in which he "lays out his complaints, disguised as a yeti." In "very schoolboy humor, the club’s site welcomed users with a montage showing André-Pierre Gignac sucking his thumb and a pink skull in the foreground." The club indicated on its Twitter account Thursday that its “official site is the playground of a pirate and is out of control.” The website has since returned to normal (RTL, 11/30).

RATINGS: The return of Top 14 rugby on French TV network Canal+ on Saturday "had been long awaited, especially with the clash" between Toulon and Clermont. The match "achieved season-record ratings" with 836,000 viewers and an audience share of 30.7%. Football was "not to be outdone" Saturday, however, with the match between Ligue 1 sides Paris St. Germain and Nice also breaking ratings records for this season with 1.14M viewers and a 36.1% audience share (L’EQUIPE, 11/30).
