Argentine Basketball Confederation (CABB) Comptroller Federico Susbielles announced that the body's debt after Germán Vaccaro's presidency -- which ran from '08-14 -- has risen to 33.4M Argentine pesos ($3.9M) as a "consequence of the irregularities found in the audit report submitted to the courts," according to the BUENOS AIRES HERALD. Susbielles, who audited the period from Jan. '12 through August, added that he found "many irregularities while Vaccaro was in charge which range from unregistered incomes to personal spending" like top-brand clothing and "missing the 1950 World Cup trophy and a copy of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games gold medal." Some employees said that the trophy "has been missed" since '12. Susbielles "also said that four wrongdoing causes remain under investigation" at the Buenos Aires city Federal court "which may be considered as fraud." He said, "Vaccaro decided everything on his own without consulting someone else and nobody can manage an association without control. However, Vaccaro is the head of this organization but I think that he had a group behind him" (BUENOS AIRES HERALD, 11/26). EL INTRANSIGENTE reported Susbielles said his audit revealed "embarrassing results." Susbielles: "Shame and pain as a man of basketball." A debt of $3.9M, unreported revenue of 22M Argentine pesos ($2.58M), "disappearance of accounting documentation and an emptying of assets are the most devastating conclusions from a report that includes emotional loss: the 1950 World Cup trophy" (EL INTRANSIGENTE, 11/26).
