Former Rangers Owner Craig Whyte Considered Buying Motherwell

Former Scottish Championship side Rangers Owner Craig Whyte "once considered buying Motherwell," according to Craig McDonald of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The "disgraced businessman spoke of a possible takeover bid for the club with those close to him -- before switching his attention to Rangers." Whyte, 43, "is wanted on two separate warrants issued by British courts last week." A spokesperson for Whyte claimed last week that "the fraud suspect -- who was a Motherwell fan" -- intended to return to the U.K. to help police with inquiries. But a source close to his family said, “We’ve seen reports that he says he’ll come back and give himself up but it would be a surprise if he did that. He has never faced up to trouble before.” They described Whyte’s whole involvement with Rangers as “astonishing, bizarre and unbelievable,” adding, “He did talk in the past about buying Motherwell. But he got involved with Rangers instead -- and that was unbelievable. It was very unlike him -- the most stupid thing he has ever done" (DAILY RECORD, 11/23).
