La Liga Kickoff Times To Undergo Changes As TV Revenue Plans Take Effect

Kickoff times in La Liga "are due to undergo yet another alteration as plans for the way television revenue is divided up take effect," according to FOOTBALL ESPANA. An extraordinary meeting of the Spanish Football League (LFP) "is set for Wednesday," when Spanish Sports Council (CSD) President Miguel Cardenal is expected to attend and discuss the fine print of a new law governing the rearrangement and how it will affect clubs. The main adjustment, as far as fans are concerned, "is that some games will now start as early as 2pm local time, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona not anticipated to play any future matches after 8pm to coincide with the Asian market." The hope "is that revenue would significantly increase" from the €200M ($251M) the LFP currently earns from foreign TV rights, which would then be added to the €600M ($753M) received from the Spanish TV companies (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 11/19).
