Media Notes: Sky Sports Launches Channel Dedicated To Darts On Dec. 18

Sky Sports will for the first time dedicate an entire channel to darts this Christmas. Sky Sports Darts will launch on Dec. 18 and offer viewers more than 370 hours of programming, including live coverage of the William Hill World Darts Championship (Sky Sports). ... YouView "received a double boost" in its battle to get into 10 million U.K. homes. First, it announced "a tie-up with Netflix." Then it "received a welcome surprise when regulators ordered BSkyB to allow BT’s YouView service to show Sky Sports 1 and 2 at a price set by Ofcom." YouView "is on course to get into two million homes by early next year" (CAMPAIGN LIVE, 11/13). ... Canal+ and the French National Rugby League (LNR) have decided to challenge the court of appeals on the suspension of the tender process concerning the Top 14 rights. The court’s ruling was “a real setback” for both sides as Canal+ “considers the broadcasting of rugby an essential piece” of its business and the LNR "saw the opportunity for their revenues to increase” with this tender. This appeal is the “last possible resort before these rights are released back to the market” (BFM BUSINESS, 11/12).
