A-League side Perth Glory Owner Tony Sage has called for the FFA Cup final to be "played over two legs in future after claiming his club and its state were being unfairly treated by Football Federation Australia," according to Ray Gatt of THE AUSTRALIAN. Sage, who is "renowned for taking on authority, went on a one-man crusade after FFA awarded Adelaide United home hosting rights for the final" against Perth at Coopers Stadium on Dec. 16. Sage learned it would be in Adelaide only after it was "mentioned three times on the Fox Sports coverage of the Adelaide game." Sage: "Seething? Yes I am. This is wrong by every measure. ... Fox knew and we didn't. Then there is the fact the game will kick
off at 4:30pm Perth time when most people here are still at work." Sage
said Perth fans had "gone feral" over the decision and he would "not be
surprised if they voted with their feet in protest, even though it would
hurt the club." Sage added, "Look, I think the best solution in the future would be if they adopted
the Asian Champions League model and played the final over two legs. It
would be a great money-spinner for everyone and much fairer. And Fox
would be happy because it would give them more midweek content" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/14).
