Event Notes: New Zealand PGA Championship To Return After One-Year Absence

After a year off the golfing calendar, the New Zealand PGA Championship is back and "will be played a week before the New Zealand Open." The Remuera Golf Club will host the NZ$125,000 ($96,800) PGA Tour of Australasia event from March 5-8, the week before the New Zealand Open returns to Arrowtown's The Hills and Millbrook courses. It will be the "first top-flight professional golf tournament to be played in Auckland for seven years" (STUFF, 11/10). ... Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz said that MotoGP will race "for at least five years, so at least until 2020" at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. He added that "no date has been set yet for the return of the Austrian race" in '16. Mateschitz: "We have to take a closer look. To make sure the dates of our big racing event won't be too close to each other" (KURIER, 11/10). ... The EPL and sponsor Barclays will host the second int'l fan park event from Dec. 13-14 in Mumbai. The Barclays Premier League Live -- a free, interactive experience -- will take place at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Grounds (Premier League). ... The UAE has joined Bahrain in pulling out of the 2015 men's World Handball Championships in Qatar in an "apparent political boycott." The Int'l Handball Federation announced the latest withdrawal on Monday "without giving a reason." Bahrain's boycott was announced on Friday. The UAE, like Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, recalled its ambassadors from Doha in March to "protest Qatari support for Islamist groups across the region" (AP, 11/10).
