West Indies Cricket Board Appeals To India For Agreement Over Tour

The West Indies Cricket Board appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India to come to a “mutually agreeable solution” over the recent abandoned series between the sides, according to the PA. The BCCI has a £26.2M ($41.5M) damages claim against the WICB, "which it holds solely responsible for the financial loss incurred due to the cancellation." It is well known that West Indian cricket "does not have the means to meet such a figure and WICB officials are hopeful of forging a diplomatic solution," despite hard words from BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel (PA, 11/6). The AP reported the Int'l Cricket Council called West Indies' withdrawal from its tour of India "damaging and unacceptable" on Sunday and indicated that "such behavior in future would jeopardize players' participation in lucrative tournaments like the Indian Premier League." The ICC said in a statement after meeting Sunday that players abandoning tours have the potential to cause "irrevocable damage" and could "adversely affect the financial viability of the sport itself" (AP, 11/10).
