New Multi-Sport Event Including Skateboarding, Jet Skiing Could Be Added To Global Calendar

A new int'l multi-sport event, featuring games including American flag football, skateboarding and jet ski races, "could be added to the global sports calendar" in '17, according to the GLOBAL TIMES. Although the "yet-to-be-named world beach games will not carry the Olympic tag, they will be run by SportAccord and the Association of National Olympic Committees," which comprises more than 200 member countries and regions recognized by the IOC. The Games were "introduced partly as a way to modernize major multi-sport events but also for countries and regions that could not afford to host bigger international events like the Olympic Games" (GLOBAL TIMES, 11/5).
