WILSON KIPSANG has won a "lucrative duel-to-the-finish" to join compatriot MARY KEITANY in a "Kenyan sweep of the men's and women's races" at the New York City Marathon. Kipsang and Keitany both "pulled away in the last Central Park stretch on Sunday," with Kipsang's victory bringing him a $600,000 payday as the win also gave him the $500,000 World Marathon Majors bonus. Kipsang: "Of course I was thinking about it" (REUTERS, 11/3). ... British Paralympic champion DAVID WEIR has "opted not to be part of the UK Athletics lottery funding programme" for the '14-15 season. U.K. Paralympic head coach PAULA DUNN said that Weir's decision will "not have an impact on his international career." Dunn: "David is still very important to British Athletics and we have a good relationship with him" (BBC, 11/3). ... ESPNcricinfo announced RICKY PONTING is joining the site as a columnist and video commentator. He will offer his insights and comments on the key cricket action of '15 including the ICC Cricket World Cup and the Ashes (ESPN). ... Chelsea captain JOHN TERRY vowed to lobby Chelsea's board to "address ticket prices at Stamford Bridge after telephoning a young supporter" angered by Manager JOSE MOURINHO's "outspoken attack on the atmosphere at the ground." Terry pledged to "intervene on behalf" of fan JOE DAVIES. Terry called Davies explaining that he and his teammates and "even Mourinho would raise the youngster's concerns with the Chelsea board" (London TELEGRAPH, 11/3).
