Argentine second division club Argentinos Juniors announced that NÉSTOR GOROSITO has replaced CLAUDIO BORGHI as the club's coach. Borghi resigned on Saturday following the team's 2-1 loss against Nueva Chicago (LA TERCERA, 10/27). ... Former English football player GARY ROWETT has “left Burton to become Birmingham’s new manager.” Burton has “announced the 40-year-old has been appointed as the replacement for the sacked LEE CLARK at the Blues” and will take his backroom staff of KEVIN SUMMERFIELD, KEVIN POOLE and MARK SALE with him to St. Andrew’s. Rowett was “the club’s first choice while OWEN COYLE and MIKE PHELAN were also reportedly in the frame” (London GUARDIAN, 10/27). ... Chelsea has appointed former Liverpool Managing Dir CHRISTIAN PURSLOW as its head of global commercial activities. Purslow will “lead Chelsea’s attempt to expand their brand as they seek to become a growing force on and off the field.” He joined Liverpool in June ‘09 (London GUARDIAN, 10/27). ... Int’l Surfing Association President FERNANDO AGUERRE has “been re-elected unopposed” at the ISA 50th Anniversary World Surfing Games in Punta Rocas, Peru. Aguerre will continue to lead the sport's global development in what will be his eighth term as president (SURFLINE, 10/26). ... WASIM KHAN has “become the first British Asian to be appointed as the chief executive of an English county cricket club.” The former batsman will "take up the reins at beleaguered Leicestershire in January having agreed to succeed MIKE SIDDALL,” who left at the end of the season after four years in the post. Wasim will take over at a critical time for Leicestershire, “who have not won a game in the LV= County Championship for two years” and have seen local players -- the likes of JOSH COBB, NATHAN BUCK, GREG SMITH and SHIV THAKOR -- opting to “ply their trade elsewhere” next season (LONDON TIMES, 10/27). ... Former U.S. women's national forward MIA HAMM was “approved on Monday as a new member of Italian club AS Roma's board of directors.” Roma is traded on the Milan stock exchange and the nomination was made at a club shareholder meeting Monday (ESPN, 10/27). ... National Rugby League side Manly sacked GM DAVID PERRY “in the wake” of the club’s ownership restructure. Perry, “who has been in charge for four seasons,” was aligned with former co-owners Quantum Group, which was bought out by RICK PENN last week. His axing was “unsurprisingly the first decision made by the Penns as they look to steady the divided Sea Eagles.” He “was told of his axing over the weekend and Monday is his last day” (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 10/27). ... Former Tampa Bay Rowdies Owner, President & GM ANDREW NESTOR is part of a new ownership group that has purchased Serie B side Bologna. Nestor’s partners in the venture include Major League Soccer side Owner JOEY SAPUTO and N.Y.-based criminal attorney JOE TACOPINA. Working with Park Lane Sports Investment Bank, Nestor led financial, operational and diligence efforts for the ownership group and has been in Bologna overseeing an organizational transition (Bologna FC).
