CAF Rules Ghana Ineligible To Participate In 2015 African U17 Cup Due To Age Fraud

"Will Ghana be deprived of the final stage of the 2015 African U-17 Championship? This is where things are headed after the announcement of the Black Starlets’ exclusion" from the competition that they qualified for a month ago, according to AFRICA TOP SPORTS. The Confederation of African Football disqualified Ghana this weekend for "having used an older player." After Ghana's victory against Cameroon on Sept. 15, the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) filed a complaint for age fraud regarding seven players. CAF subsequently referred the Ghana FA for further MRI testing on the players "to prove its innocence." Following a second opinion by CAF medical experts, "it turns out that Twum Isaac is older than the age requirement" to participate in the competition. It is on this basis that the CAF Competitions Commission is excluding Ghana from the Niger U17 African Cup, "to the benefit of Cameroon." GFA has appealed this decision (AFRICA TOP SPORTS, 10/27).
