British Horse Racetrack Renames Itself Newbury Racecourse

Newbury "has dumped the unpopular and ridiculed title of The Racecourse Newbury and reverted to Newbury Racecourse," according to Peter Scargill of RACING POST. The track rebranded itself The Racecourse Newbury in late '12 "as part of a wider development of the course and the surrounding area, which included the building of several new homes on racecourse land." However, the move "was met with almost instant derision" and new Newbury CEO Julian Thick admitted on Monday that the name "had not sat well with the public or stakeholders at the track." The Racecourse Newbury brand "had been introduced under the stewardship of joint managing directors Stephen Higgins and Sarah Horden, who left the racecourse last year" (RACING POST, 10/27).
