UEFA Agreed To Invest $2.5M In Each Euro 2016 Host City

At a steering committee held Thursday in Bordeaux, UEFA agreed to "give the ten host cities of the Euro 2016 an overall investment of €20M ($25.3M), or €2M ($2.5M) per city," according to the AFP. In the presence of French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, Bordeaux mayor Alain Juppé welcomed the advance, saying, “It is a gesture that UEFA made in response to our request for help in the social acceptability of this event. The 10 cities are satisfied with this proposal and approved it unanimously. ... This is a very significant effort.” Juppé, who chairs the association of host cities for the European Championship in France, had "already started negotiating the topic of the event’s economic impact" with UEFA President Michel Platini. According to some UEFA figures, the Euro in France will produce a flow of 2.5 million people, including 1 million foreigners (AFP, 10/23).
