Pallotta said, “We would charge 20 euros for it on video on demand around the world. There could be more than 300 million spectators who would take advantage of this unique opportunity to see a match in the Colosseum. With this formula, we would create a foundation to restore ancient Rome even faster" (SO FOOT, 10/21). ... French int'l rugby player JOCELINO SUTA "has extended his contract" with Top 14 rugby club Toulon for three years, until ’18, the club announced Tuesday (AFP, 10/21). ... Olympic cross-country skiing champion JUSTYNA KOWALCZYK is "auctioning off a gold bar she received for her win this year in the Sochi games in a bid to raise money for a cystic fibrosis clinic." Last year she "auctioned off a luxury car for the same cause." The gold bars that Polish tycoon JAN KULCZYK funded for Poland's winners in Sochi weigh 525 grams, with a market value of about 90,000 zloty ($27,120). However, Kowalczyk is "keeping fingers crossed that she will raise more than the market value during the auction" (POLSKIE RADIO, 10/20).

IN SPAIN: Reactions to the death of former Spanish Basketball League (ACB) club CAI Zaragoza Coach JOSÉ LUIS ABÓS have "appeared quickly." A group of fans has used Twitter to request that the club "rename its Pabellón Príncipe Felipe arena to honor Abós." Fans also started a petition to change the name of the arena using Change.org (AS, 10/21). ... Barcelona member JORDI CASES has withdrawn his "lawsuit against the club over the price" of its signing of NEYMAR. Cases said in a letter to Barcelona President JOSEP MARIA BARTOMEU that he does not observe "conduct constituting a crime in the club's corporate area." Bartomeu responded, saying, "I cannot do anything except celebrate before the evidence that shows that there was no conduct that damaged the club" (MARCA, 10/21). ... Former Barcelona President JOSÉ LUIS NÚÑEZ has lost an appeal to a "court verdict that sentenced him to two years and two months of prison after being found guilty of bribing tax inspectors." A Barcelona-based court issued a statement on Tuesday saying a judge "rejected the appeal" filed by the 83-year-old Núñez requesting the sentence to be suspended. He was president of the club from '78-00 (AP, 10/21). ... Spanish footballer RAÚL has reached an agreement with North American Soccer League side N.Y. Cosmos to play for the club starting in January. The 37-year-old will travel to the U.S. this week to "formally sign a contract, committing to the club for at least two seasons" (AS, 10/20).

IPC CONFIRMS PISTORIUS BAN: The Int'l Paralympic Committee has ruled that Olympic and Paralympic sprinter OSCAR PISTORIUS "will not be allowed to return to competition" until '19 after he was "sentenced to five years in prison" for shooting his girlfriend REEVA STEENKAMP. An IPC spokesperson confirmed that Pistorius "would be banned from the Rio Games even if he had been released on licence by that point" (London GUARDIAN, 10/21).
