League Notes: Australian Football League Plans Fan-Friendly 2015 Fixture

The Australian Football League's pledge "to deliver football back to its heartland supporters" will see Saturday night games brought forward to an earlier start next season after fans told the AFL that those "showcase matches began too late" for young families and followers from outside of Melbourne. AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has "confirmed the league will bring forward Saturday night games" by 20 minutes to 7:20pm. The AFL fixture "will also herald a traditional return to big Saturday afternoon games at the MCG" (THE AGE, 10/21). ... The WTA "has made a ruling to permit even more external assistance during matches, by allowing real-time statistical data to be delivered during breaks in play." Since '08, the WTA rules "have allowed coaches to enter the court to provide tactical advice and support; from next year, starting in Brisbane in the opening week of the season, they can also be armed with analytical evidence of what is unfolding on court, delivered via mobile applications supplied by the tour's software analytics partner, SAP" (THE AGE, 10/22).
