Second Bundesliga Side VfL Bochum Abandons Plans To Close Women's Football Department

Second Bundesliga club VfL Bochum "has abandoned its plan of closing its women's football department to save money," according to SPIEGEL ONLINE. Public protests "have forced the club to retract its proposal." The club's supervisory board "voted to continue the women's football department at Monday's annual meeting." Supervisory Board Chair Hans-Peter Villis said that the club is now working "on a new, socio-political solution." The club's economic numbers "are far from positive." During the '13-14 season, Bochum generated €27.2M in revenue and a loss of €633,000. For the current fiscal year, the club expects revenue of €25.3M ($32.2M) and profits of €1.9M ($2.4M) (SPIEGEL ONLINE, 10/21).
