Spanish Second Division Side Real Zaragoza Granted Meeting With Tax Authorities

The Aragon, Spain government "has not hesitated to try to help" Spanish second division side Real Zaragoza after a "call for help" made on Thursday by the club's majority shareholder, the Fundación Zaragoza 2032 group, according to Sonia Gaudioso of MARCA. The Fundación Zaragoza 2032 group "denounced the treatment the club was receiving from Spain's tax authorities and explained the situation the club faced after being denied the opportunity to sign a singular agreement." Aragon President Luisa Fernanda Rudi "took charge of bringing the delicate subject to the tax authorities and was able to set up a meeting between the club and the Estado de Hacienda undersecretary to discuss the problem and thus be able to present Real Zaragoza's viability plan." It is a plan that "was requested by Spanish tax authorities Fundraising Dir Soledad García weeks ago during negotiations." The "decision was made, however, not to wait for that plan, and Real Zaragoza received a notification that payment was owed" (MARCA, 10/20).
