Media Notes: BeIN Group Set To Acquire Pay-TV Channel Setanta Sports Australia

Global media conglomerate beIN Media Group is in the final stages of acquiring Setanta Sports Australia, the int'l sports channel owned by Dublin, Ireland-based Danu Investment Partners. Setanta Australia broadcasts a wide range of int'l football and rugby union including the German Bundesliga, UEFA Europa League and RBS Six Nations. The channel is available to 2.5 million subscription-TV households in Australia via FOXTEL, as well as distribution via fetchTV and online (Setanta). ... The European Tour officially launched its Chinese social media channels. Chinese platforms Weibo and WeChat will feature, in Mandarin, live updates, news, information and competitions from all European Tour events and the Ryder Cup, with particular emphasis on local tournaments including this week’s Hong Kong Open (European Tour). ... Sydney-based studio Garage Entertainment, the producer and distributor of action sports and adventure film and TV content, and Samsung SportsFlow announced their new joint endeavor to launch a new action sports and adventure channel called Fearless. The Fearless channel has been available on the SportsFlow app since Wednesday, giving on-demand and exclusive access for SportsFlow users (Garage Entertainment).

EUROLEAGUE IN RUSSIA: Euroleague Basketball announced that fans in Russia will be able to watch more Euroleague games than ever before thanks to an agreement with broadcasters Sport 1 and NTV Plus Sport Plus that takes effect with the start of the regular season this week and runs through the Final Four next spring. The new agreement will offer fans in Russia not only the games of all three teams from the country participating in the competition -- CSKA Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Unics Kazan -- but many more from across the continent (Euroleague).
