League Notes: Australian Rugby Union Calls In Consultants For Help With Beale Controversy

The Australian Rugby Union has called in an "external media management consultant to help deal with the crisis surrounding Kurtley Beale's misconduct allegation" and drafted in injured former Wallabies captain Stephen Moore to "help steer the team back on track before the tour of Europe" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/15). ... Indian Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said that Indian PM Narendra Modi has granted an additional Rs 450 crore ($73.8M) for the "development of sports in the country." Sonowal said that the Indian contingent's performance at the 17th Asiad, "where they bagged 57 medals (11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze) was below the ministry's expectations and the country must strive hard to better its performance in upcoming events" (IANS, 10/14). ... Rugby player Steffon Armitage's proposed move from Top 14 rugby side Toulon to Premiership side Bath Rugby and his "hopes of representing England at the 2015 World Cup were in danger of collapsing" on Tuesday night after the Rugby Football Union stuck by its "non-interventionist policy and rejected a late request to help" to fund the €300,000 loan deal (LONDON TIMES, 10/15).
