La Liga side Málaga Owner ABDULLAH AL-THANI requested on Tuesday that UEFA President MICHEL PLATINI resign. Al-Thani "believes that UEFA does not apply the law equally to all the teams it governs." He said, "If UEFA really wants 'fair play' but cannot administrate justice and equity, the president of UEFA should resign" (EFE, 10/14). ... Queensland jockey CARLY-MAE PYE "died from injuries she suffered in a fall at Rockhampton." The 26-year-old "was riding a horse in a jump-out at the Rockhampton racecourse on Monday when it broke its two front legs, and fell on top of her." She "suffered severe head, neck and chest injuries and was put on life support in Rockhampton Base Hospital where she died late on Tuesday afternoon" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 10/14). ... Sky Sports presenter JEFF STELLING "has quit Twitter after a row with another user over his son’s performance at a football match." His departure from the social network comes soon after that of cricket commentator JONATHAN AGNEW, "who quit after a row" with JESSICA TAYLOR, the wife of former England batsman KEVIN PIETERSEN (LONDON TIMES, 10/14). ... The first Japanese man to earn an Olympic figure skating medal, DAISUKE TAKAHASHI, said on Tuesday that "he is retiring from the sport after 20 years." The 28-year-old "helped popularize the sport at home and made Japanese skating history" by claiming a Bronze Medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He also "became the first Japanese man to win a gold medal at the world championships the same year" (JAPAN TIMES, 10/14). ... The Federal Board of Revenue "has frozen the bank accounts" of cricket captain MISBAHUL HAQ over alleged tax evasion. Federal Bureau of Revenue spokesperson SHAHID HUSSAIN said that batsman AZHAR ALI’s accounts "have also been frozen." Hussain: "Misbah has not paid taxes of 3.9M rupees ($63,000) and Ali owes 1.5M rupees ($24,000) in taxes, so the FBR has frozen their accounts and as per rules, their banks will be asked to deduct the amount if it is there in their accounts" (EXPRESS TRIBUNE, 10/14).
