League Championship Side Bolton Wanderers Chair Phil Gartside Says Club Is For Sale

League Championship side Bolton Wanderers Chair Phil Gartside admitted that club Owner Eddie Davies "is ready to sell the struggling Championship outfit," according to Mark Ogden of the London TELEGRAPH. Currently bottom of the Championship and without a manager following the sacking of Dougie Freedman last week, Bolton's debt has escalated to more than £160M ($258M) "since relegation from the Premier League two years ago." With the entirety of the debt owed to Isle of Man-based owner Davies, Bolton insists that the club's financial position "is not as perilous as the figures suggest." But Gartside admitted that "if the right buyer can be found, Davies will sell the club." Gartside: "If you want to go and put a for sale sign outside, do it. Every club is for sale and if someone knocks on the door and says they want to buy the club, we'd listen. Eddie would want to sell it to someone who is responsible, who has belief in it. He would want to know it's not a property strip" (TELEGRAPH, 10/9).
