ASADA Probe Caused Half Of NRL Cronulla's Losses Of $870,000, Club Chair Says

National Rugby League Cronulla Chair Damian Keogh has revealed the club is "poised to announce a loss" of about A$1M ($870,000) this year -- "half of which can be directly related to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority investigation," according to Brent Read of THE AUSTRALIAN. The World Anti-Doping Agency announced it would "not pursue appeals against past and present Sharks players." Keogh said the club would be "forced to eat into its cash reserves -- and may yet seek a forward payment from the NRL -- to help in the short term." However, long-term it "appears the club has weathered the storm." The "only remaining speed bump is the threat of legal action from the players at the centre of the investigation." Keogh said of WADA's decision, "Relief is one word. Overall in terms of the outcome, it's not as bad as it probably could have been. It's just been such a disaster for the last couple of years" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 10/2).
