Former French President NICOLAS SARKOZY "is being mentioned more and more strongly" as a candidate to become president of Ligue 1 side Paris St. Germain. The rumor "has circulated in Paris for some time, and Sarkozy is not denying it -- on the contrary, he is encouraging it." Sarkozy, "a fervent fan of PSG who frequently attends games," said, "They ask me if I want to be president of PSG, but I already am. They just have to come to the Parc des Princes. [PSG President] Nasser [al-Khelaifi] always puts me at his side, along with the president of the rival. The true president of PSG is me!" (MARCA, 9/30). ... LINDSEY VONN "will help promote the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway." The IOC said that the U.S. skier "will serve as an ambassador" for the Games, "the same role she held for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2012" (AP, 10/1). ... Recently retired Chinese tennis player LI NA "has been appointed as an ambassador for next month's season ending WTA Tour Final in Singapore." She "will take on her new role for the first two editions of the event, which is switching to Singapore next month for the start of a five-year term" (REUTERS, 9/30). ... Defending F1 world champion SEBASTIAN VETTEL, "responding to recent reports linking him to a possible move to Ferrari," insisted that "he was staying put at Red Bull for next season." Vettel: "I've already said on numerous occasions that I've got a contract with Red Bull for next year and I'm working on the principle that I will still be driving for them" (AFP, 9/24). ... Bundesliga club FSV Mainz President HARALD STRUTZ "has been re-elected for another three years." Strutz, who has held the position since '88, "was re-elected during the club's annual general meeting on Monday" (MAIN SPITZE, 9/29). ... Former Scottish Championship side Rangers Owner CRAIG WHYTE "has been banned from being a company director for the maximum period of 15 years." On Tuesday a court heard his conduct in his dealings with the Ibrox club was "singularly shocking and reprehensible." A judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh said that "the case for imposing a period of disqualification on Whyte was 'overwhelming'" (STV, 9/30).

IN THE CLOUDS: Irish airline Ryanair CEO MICHAEL O'LEARY has reportedly offered the family of EPL Aston Villa player JACK GREALISH "free flights if the youngster opts to play for Ireland." Grealish "is one of the hottest prospects in English football right now." He "has put his international decision on hold for now." O'Leary "has launched an unusual bid." He "offered free flights for the whole Grealish clan for Jack’s senior debut with Ireland should it happen" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 9/30).
