FA Confirms Arbitration Process Reviewing Hull City's Proposed Name Change To Hull Tigers

The FA has confirmed an "arbitration process has begun" with EPL side Hull City over the club's "proposal to change its name to Hull Tigers," according to James McMath of the LONDON TIMES. The FA rejected the proposal on April 9 but Hull Owner & Chair Assem Allam said earlier this month that he would "launch an appeal against the decision." The FA released "few details about the arbitration," but said it had agreed, “in the interests of the supporters,” to confirm the process was under way. Allam, who saved Hull from the "threat of administration when he took over the club in 2010, believes renaming the club would increase commercial opportunities in the Far East and Asia" (LONDON TIMES, 9/30). The PA reported Allam "caused confusion by stating the case was being handled by the court of arbitration for sport, who reported no knowledge of it." His son Ehab, the acting CEO, "later clarified that the arbitration process was actually being handled through the FA's own procedures but a confidentiality clause meant the governing body was unable to confirm this" (PA, 9/30).
