Spain's Atresmedia Secures Rights To Carry Champions League Games From '15-18

Champions League games will be broadcast in Spain from '15-18 by Atresmedia, as Antena 3 will carry the top Tuesday game and the final on free-TV, while Mediapro's GOL TV will carry four games per matchday, according to the EFE. The UEFA TV rights acquired by Atresmedia also include the Supercup during those seasons, which "will feature the Champions League winner playing the winner of the Europa League." Atresmedia Dir General Javier Bardají said, "The first beneficiary will be the fan, as with this acquisition, we guarantee that the Champions League will be available for free through 2018." The Champions League "draws a bigger audience in Spain than events such as the World Cup, the Euro and La Liga." Atresmedia said that in '13-14, Champions League broadcasts in Spain drew an average audience of 6.8 million viewers and a market share of 36% (EFE, 9/24).
