Inter Milan announced that it has tied Sporting Dir PIERO AUSILIO to a new contract, "which will run" until June 30, 2017. Ausilio "was responsible for the signings" of NEMANJA VIDIC and GARY MEDEL this summer, as well as securing loan deals for DANI OSVALDO and YANN M'VILA (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 9/23). ... New Zealand netball player IRENE VAN DYK "has been elected to the New Zealand Olympic Committee's athletes commission." ALEXIS PRITCHARD (boxing), SHEA MCALEESE (field hockey) and former cyclist CATH CHEATLEY "were also confirmed to the commission" (STUFF, 9/23). ... Former Olympic rower NICK GREEN is Cycling Australia’s new CEO. Green’s appointment comes a week after former Int'l Cricket Council CEO MALCOM SPEED "took over as CA president." Most recently, Green "was also chef de mission of Australia’s London Olympics team." He takes over from MELINDA TARRANT, "who had been acting chief executive since May" (AAP, 9/23). ... MAXWELL GRATTON will become Basketball ACT's third CEO this year when he replaces TONY FRASER, "who will depart at the end of this week." Basketball New South Wales exec team member TOM MOORE "will assume an interim CEO role until Gratton begins work on October 27." Although he does not have a basketball background, Basketball ACT officials "were impressed by his community engagement skills" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 9/23).

RUGBY MOVES
: The Australian Rugby Union announced Melbourne Rebels CEO ROB CLARKE has been appointed to the position of GM of professional rugby, marketing and operations. Clarke will oversee Super Rugby; Australian Rugby’s involvement in SANZAR; National Rugby Championship; ticketing and memberships; rugby operations and events (tests and sevens); and marketing. Victorian Rugby Union CEO PETER LEAHY will expand his current role to assume the position of Melbourne Rebels CEO, in a move that completes the integration of professional and community rugby in Victoria (ARU).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Former Greece Manager FERNANDO SANTOS has been appointed as Portugal's new head coach. Santos, "who led Greece to the last 16 of the World Cup in Brazil where they lost on penalties to Costa Rica," replaces PAULO BENTO as manager "after Portugal made a calamitous start" to its Euro 2016 campaign and was beaten by Albania (REUTERS, 9/23). ... Qatar Stars League side Al Shahaniya’s Spanish coach MIGUEL ÁNGEL LOTINA decided to quit. The club agreed to Lotina’s decision. It is believed Lotina resigned for "personal reasons" (QFA).
