League Notes: Indian Handset Company Micromax Named Owner Of IPTL's Indian Aces

Indian handset company Micromax has been named the owner of Int'l Premier Tennis League franchise Indian Aces. The amount paid by Micromax for ownership of the franchise has not "been disclosed by the IPTL, nor whether this amounts to 100% ownership of the franchise" (MEDIA NAMA, 9/23). ... The Australian Football League has "knocked back Melbourne's request for a priority selection at the upcoming national draft." The Demons had "made a request for a priority pick, which are only awarded at the discretion of the AFL Commission, which discussed the request on Monday and decided against granting the Demons an extra pick." Melbourne was informed verbally on Monday and "officially on Tuesday that it would not receive the priority choice" (THE AGE, 9/23). ... The Spanish Basketball League (ACB) announced that it will increase the use of instant replay during the '14-15 season. Referees will be able to use it throughout games to determine "if a shot was for 2 or 3 points, who should take free throws, who was involved in a confrontation or how much time is left in a possession or game." Previously, instant replay was only used at the end of a period to "decide whether a shot was released in time, whether it was for 2 or 3 points and to see how much time should be on the clock" (EP, 9/23).
