NBA Latin America VP Philippe Moggio Discusses League's Interest In Argentina

NBA Latin America VP Philippe Moggio discussed "the possibility of an NBA game being played in Argentina" after the NBA 3X 3-on-3 series visited Buenos Aires on Saturday and Sunday, according to Julián Mozo of OLE. Moggio said, "Before, we had done Basketball Without Borders, which is more focused on developing elite players. These 3X events allow the public to participate and they look to develop the sport and popularize the league. Many fans cannot go to an NBA stadium in the United States, we want to bring what they can experience closer to them." The NBA 3X's sponsors included Gatorade, DirecTV, adidas and Bimbo. The 3-on-3 series drew 120 teams over the weekend. When asked "whether the dream is to hold a game in Argentina in the future," Moggio said, "I see potential and it is my dream to bring a game to Argentina. With these events we are planting the seeds. In this country there is potential for business and organization. We have limitations, with six or seven total games available (to play outside the U.S.) and competition with Asia, Europe and Africa. Or the venue issue. We need one with capacity not only for people, but also to be able to develop all the entertainment the NBA puts on display every game" (OLE, 9/23).
