Swiss Top Flight Tennis Club Ried Wollerau Withdraws Men's Team From NLA

The most successful club in Switzerland's top flight tennis league "has withdrawn its men's team from the the competition," according to the NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG. The TC Ried Wollerau "has withdrawn its men's team from the NLA for the '15 season." The club, which has been playing in the top flight since '02 and has won six titles, "attributed its decision to insufficient sustainability at the top and problems in marketing." Like other clubs, the TC Ried Wollerau said that the Swiss tennis federation "should allocate" more than 80,000 Swiss francs ($85,300) in prize money for the NLA. Swiss Tennis reacted and announced that the prize money will be increased to 105,000 Swiss francs ($112,000). It is not clear "what club will replace the TC Reid Wollerau in the NLA." In addition, the club "plans to organize an ATP Challenger Tour tournament in the summer or, like back in the day, a national event for N class pro players" (NZZ, 9/22).
