ROGER FEDERER will replace RAFAEL NADAL in the Indian team for the new Indian Premier Tennis League as the Spaniard "has pulled out due to injury." Federer "was not part of the original squads" announced by organizers of the IPTL (PTI, 9/22). ... British boxer TYSON FURY "wore tape over his mouth and refused to utter a single word on Monday in protest against his fine from the British Boxing Board of Control." Fury was handed a misconduct charge and fined £15,000 ($24,500) "for his behaviour at a press conference in June, when the 26-year-old launched into a number of expletive-ridden rants" at DERECK CHISORA and journalists (PA, 9/22). ... Danish rookie F1 driver KEVIN MAGNUSSEN "needed medical attention for burns to his backside following Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix in which he finished 10th for McLaren." In hot and humid conditions under floodlights at the southeast Asian street circuit, "he was one of many drivers to suffer from fatigue and dehydration." Magnussen: "I don't know if something was wrong, but my seat was very hot, so we have to check what's going on. I couldn't even drink the water it was so hot" (AFP, 9/22). ... An unapologetic GARY LINEKER "will be warned over his use of social media by the BBC following his foul-mouthed reaction" to Leicester City's victory over ManU. The Match of the Day presenter "tarnished his own squeaky-clean image when he swore repeatedly on Twitter in response to his hometown club’s stunning comeback from 2-0 and 3-1 down to beat United 5-3 on Sunday" (London TELEGRAPH, 9/22). ... Record-breaking base jumper RAMON ROJAS "has died while flying using a wingsuit in Switzerland." Rojas "was practicing for a competition in Lauterbrunnen on Saturday when the accident happened." A newspaper in his native Chile, La Tercera, reported that preliminary information indicated high winds may have caused Rojas "to lose control and crash" (London INDEPENDENT, 9/21). ... The Spanish tennis federation has announced that former WTA player GALA LEON GARCIA will replace CARLOS MOYA as the country's Davis Cup captain, "becoming the first female coach to hold the postition." Her appointment "is the latest high profile move towards female coaches in the men's game" after two-time Grand Slam champion ANDY MURRAY's decision to hire AMELIE MAURESMO in June (AFP, 9/22).
