Executive Transactions

Former Scottish Championship side Rangers CEO MARTIN BAIN "made a surprise return to football" as CEO of Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv. Bain "has been out of the game since May 2011" when he was ousted by CRAIG WHYTE "after attempting to block what quickly became a catastrophic takeover." Bain "felt so badly damaged he turned down a string of job offers from other clubs over the last three years." But he has been persuaded to take on the role in the Middle East "after being handpicked for the job" by Maccabi’s Canadian Owner MITCH GOLDHAR (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 9/22). ... Omnigon has named Senior VP of Business Development DAVID NUGENT to the new role of CCO. He will focus on Omnigon's global expansion and furthering the company’s market share in North America and overseas. His primary focus will be ensuring all organizational functions meet their objectives. He will continue to provide oversight to the marketing, communications, sales and client services teams (Omnigon). ... Former Gambia Interior Minister LAMIN KABA BAJO "has been elected president of the Gambian football federation in a move that has been criticized as being about politics and not sport." The vote was held after FIFA "dissolved the GFF board in April saying it had lost the confidence of 'major stakeholders'" (AP, 9/22).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Football Federation Australia has appointed Sydney FC W-League coach ALEN STAJCIC to guide the women's national team "through next year's Women's World Cup in Canada and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games." Stajcic "had held the national role on an interim basis" since former mentor HESTERINE DE REUS' sacking in April, steering them to the final of the Women's Asian Cup in May (AAP, 9/22).
