Indonesian Government Calls For Scottish Rangers To End Dealings With Fraudster Rizvi

Indonesia's government claims it has contacted Scottish Championship side Rangers "in a bid to stop them dealing with convicted criminal Rafat Rizvi," according to David Taylor of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Top officials from the Asian country said that they have "spoken to the Ibrox club" after it was reported that Interpol-wanted Rizvi met with Rangers Dir Sandy Easdale "earlier this month." Indonesia Deputy Attorney General Andhi Nirwanto said, "We've already approached this club to tell them our views on the matter." The country has now made a "fresh plea" to Interpol's HQ in France to arrest Rizvi and "take him home to face justice." He has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and fined £775,000 ($1.3B) for "stealing assets" after the "collapse of the country's Century Bank" in '09. He was a shareholder. Indonesia "does not have a extradition treaty" with the U.K., which "means Rizvi is safe here" (DAILY RECORD, 9/22).
