Event Notes: National Rugby League Fans Pursue Legal Action After Being Detained

Three National Rugby League fans said that they were "furious and humiliated" after being detained at a match between the North Queensland Cowboys and Sydney Roosters "for using their mobile telephones in a manner an onlooker deemed suspicious." Dozens of people who "claim they were unfairly swept up by authorities in the past few weeks are pursuing legal action, as the terrorism climate heats up in Australia" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 9/22). ... Disneyland Paris has been selected to host the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup. The site's golf course has hosted major events in the past, including the Challenge Tour event, the Challenge de France. The resort is 60km from Le Golf National, which will host the 2018 Ryder Cup later during the same week (European Tour). ... Two cricket teams are taking part in a "gruelling eight-day trek up" Mount Kilimanjaro to play a "full Twenty20 game in the ice-covered crater just below its rugged peak, at 5,785 metres." Former English cricketer Ashley Giles said, "Kilimanjaro is definitely not somewhere I thought I'd bowl a few overs, but the challenge thanks to the altitude is huge ... bring it on!" After a "week of climbing that began Saturday, teams plan to reach the peak at dawn on Friday" (AFP, 9/22).
