The promoted side defeated Hannover 2-0 with ELIAS KACHUNGA scoring in the 71st minute and Stoppelkamp adding in the third minute of injury time. Stoppelkamp: "I didn't know that I could even shoot that far" (AFP, 9/21). ... Cameroon int'l BENOIT ASSOU-EKOTTO has been "banned for three games after 'congratulating'" West Brom striker NICOLAS ANELKA on Twitter following his "controversial quenelle gesture." Assou-Ekotto "was charged after sending a tweet to Anelka congratulating him on the gesture" and, despite the 30-year-old's "denial of wrongdoing," he will now serve a ban and pay a £50,000 ($81,000) fine (London INDEPENDENT, 9/19). ... Former Australian Olympic skier ALISTAIR GUSS is "in a critical condition after falling down a mountainside at Mount Buller on Saturday." Guss, who competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, "sustained head and chest injuries after tumbling more than 100 metres down a summit." The father-of-two "owns Kew-based engineering firm, MacCormack Associates Consultants" (THE AGE, 9/21). ... The Chennai franchise of the Indian Super League "has snapped up another foreign recruit" -- former ManU and Arsenal defender MIKAEL SILVESTRE (THE HINDU, 9/21).

TOUGHER SANCTIONS: Chelsea Manager JOSE MOURINHO wants UEFA "to deduct points and remove titles from any clubs found to be in breach of Financial Fair Play rules." Mourinho: "Everybody knows there are fines and, if these fines exist, control exists. But, anyway, are the fines fair? I don't think so. In my opinion the first thing to do would be to remove points and remove titles" (GOAL, 9/20).
