League Notes: F1 Set To Ditch Double-Points System After This Season

F1 "is poised to ditch its controversial double-points system next season after receiving strong resistance from fans across the world." This year’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November "is likely to be the first and last race that the rule will be introduced following a huge surge of disapproval from spectators" (STV, 9/19). ... Brisbane "will have a team" in the National Basketball League next season for the first time since '08. CEO Fraser Neill announced a team in Brisbane "would return for the 2015-16 season at the NBL Blitz pre-season tournament." Brisbane, "long viewed by head office as a key market, has not been in the league since the Bullets were wound up at the end of the 2007-08 season" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 9/21). ... The 34 past and present Australian Football League side Essendon players "facing anti-doping bans will distance themselves from any further legal manoeuvring by the Bombers," with some now contemplating a deal with Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority "in a bid to accelerate their return to the AFL." With embattled Essendon Chair Paul Little scheduled to face his rivals at a meeting of the 18 clubs on Monday, lawyers for the 34 players "will outline a series of choices and recommend the players move forward, regardless of Essendon's next move" (THE AGE, 9/21). ... The Board of Control for Cricket in India said that the disciplinary proceedings against the Rajasthan Cricket Association "did not violate any bylaw of the Board’s Memorandum and Rules and Regulations." This was in response to RCA representative Mehmood Abdi’s claim that the "so called or their"’ Disciplinary Committee "did not have the jurisdiction because it was one member short and that it was not appointed at the AGM" in Sept. '13 (THE HINDU, 9/21).
