TalkTalk Pledges To Pass On Price Cuts To Customers In BT's Broadband

TalkTalk "has pledged to cut the price of fibre broadband for customers should regulatory proposals over access to BT’s network force the former telecoms incumbent to lower the wholesale cost," according to Daniel Thomas of the FINANCIAL TIMES. TalkTalk CEO Dido Harding said that "prices for fibre broadband needed to be cut to benefit both its customers and the wider competitiveness of Britain." TalkTalk, which provides telecom and broadband services that rival BT, "though it needs to use" the group’s networks, "has argued that BT is stifling competition by not giving enough margin between wholesale and retail superfast broadband prices." BT "rejects the claims." A BT spokesperson said, "TalkTalk are after a free ride when it comes to fibre despite having their initial complaint rejected by the U.K. broadcast regulator Ofcom" (FT, 9/17).
