Berwick Rangers Worried Independence Vote Could End Association With Scottish Football

Scottish League Two side Berwick Rangers is "worried that a vote for independence could end its long association with Scottish football," according to Colin Duncan of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The English club has played north of the border since '51 and achieved its "finest hour in 1967 by dumping Rangers out of the Scottish Cup." Berwick has a Scottish boss, Colin Cameron, and most of its players "are from the Edinburgh area but the club’s Supporters Trust believe the possible implementation of border crossing and passport controls could make it almost impossible" for the club to keep playing in the Scottish Professional Football League. Club Dir Bill Parkin is "apprehensive about the outcome." Parkin said, "If it is a Yes vote we just don’t know what will happen to Berwick Rangers. There is always the fear a pro-Scottish and very Scottish thing develops and the ‘hate the English thing’ will be there" (DAILY RECORD, 9/18).
