La Liga Side Valencia's Takeover Talks With Peter Lim Once Again At An Impasse

The sale of La Liga side Valencia is "hitting the brakes," according to Conrado Valle of AS. Peter Lim has "ordered executives from his company, Meriton Holding, who were in negotiations in Spain, to return to Singapore." This "has occurred without an agreement with Valencia lender Bankia." Neither party "is speaking of a breakdown, but of a 'freeze' in an acquisition that entered the final stretch a month ago." Bankia sources indicated that "the contract was not signed last week because Meriton requested extra time to present documentation." Bankia President José Ignacio Goirigolzarri said, "I am not involved in the details, believe it or not. There is a team that works on this and knows the details. What I know is that the teams working on this are continuing to work. It is a complex topic and they are working with the intention of reaching a final agreement" (AS, 9/18). FOOTBALL ESPANA reported Valencia President Amadeo Salvo has traveled to Singapore to attend the F1 race this weekend, "where it is hoped he will be able to smooth out any last-minute hitches" (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 9/18).
