Mexico's Grupo Pachuca Revives Takeover Talks With Colombian Club América de Cali

News of Mexican conglomerate Grupo Pachuca's interest in Colombian second division side América de Cali "has returned after reports in July indicated that Grupo Pachuca wanted to acquire the club," according to Felipe Monforte of MARCA. That news was later confirmed by América President Oreste Sangiovanni. The parties then "agreed to take some time to let things 'cool,' to divert media attention and make it possible to negotiate more calmly." The "negotiations are now resuming." Representatives of Grupo Pachuca and América met at Pachuca's headquarters. The discussions "were not just work meetings," as Grupo Pachuca President Jesús Martínez said that there "was chemistry between the parties." Sources "close to the negotiations indicated that both parties intend to sign a declaration of intentions to start the acquisition" (MARCA, 9/18).
