Finance Notes: Greece's Football League Postpones Season Due To Financial Issues

Greece's second tier Football League announced on Wednesday "the postponement of the start of the season due to financial difficulties being faced by most clubs." The Football League was scheduled to start the weekend of Sept. 27-28. The league has requested a meeting with PM Antonis Samaras, leaders of other political parties, the Greek football federation and the first division Super League "asking them to intervene to resolve these issues" (AFP, 9/17). ... Japanese electronics company Sony said on Wednesday that it expected to post a loss of more than $2B for the fiscal year, "almost five times what it previously forecast, exposing signs of serious wear in its mobile unit." Sony said that the loss of 230B yen ($2.14B) for the fiscal year that ends in March -- compared with an earlier projection of 50B yen -- "was deeper than it had expected because of reduced growth in its once-thriving mobile segment" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/17).
