Argentine FA Nearing 3 Million Combined Followers On Twitter, Facebook

Newly appointed Argentine FA Communications Dir Marcelo Tinelli "will be officially introduced" on Oct. 1, according to CLARIN. While "thinking and planning, he is breathing easy because the Argentine national teams are on track with a strong presence on Twitter and Facebook, where the AFA is close to surpassing 3 million followers -- all of this in less than four months." Before the World Cup this summer, Argentina and Iran were the "only teams that were going to play in Brazil that did not have a presence on Twitter and Facebook." But on June 2, the AFA "successfully entered the digital world." The @Argentina account attracted 100,000 followers on its first day. Since then, the account has drawn nearly 1 million followers. The AFA's launch of its official Facebook Fan Page -- www.facebook.com/AFA-SelecciónArgentina -- "was also a success." That page is "close to breaking the 2 million barrier." Now Tinelli, "with all his strength, has the big challenge of multiplying and adding more fans" (CLARIN, 9/15).
