ManU Estimates A Loss Of $78M After Failing To Qualify For Champions League

ManU estimates that it will take "a financial hit" of £48M ($78M) after its failure to qualify for Europe's elite competition -- the Champions League -- this season, according to Mehreen Khan of the London TELEGRAPH. But the fall in earnings and prestige that comes with the club's absence in Europe should not "blight what has been a stellar year in many other respects -- not least financially." ManU "announced record revenues" of £433M ($704M) in '13-14. Given its failure to qualify for Europe, "the club estimate its revenues to fall back to the region" of £385M-£395M ($626M-$642M) next year, contingent on "finishing in the top three this year." But even in such a case, ManU's books "will still make for better reading than the rest of their English rivals." The club recorded pre-tax profit of £40.5M ($66M) for the year, "compared to hefty losses" at Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man City (TELEGRAPH, 9/12).
