La Liga Side Espanyol Planning To Remodel Its Economic Department

Less than two years after "taking over as president" of La Liga side Espanyol, Joan Collet on Monday had to face the "first serious crisis in the heart of the administrative council over which he presides," according to Mª Carmen Juárez of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. Former club presidents Daniel Sánchez Llibre and Ramón Condal, who are now majority shareholders, "are in no way in agreement with how things are going for the club economically." This has "led to a restructure of the economic department, one that is underway and will be made official at a shareholders meeting" expected to be held in October or November. Espanyol Economic VP José Luis Morlanes "is a subject of questions despite directing in recent months the club's payment plan with the Spanish tax authorities." It is "unclear if Morlanes will leave his position on the administrative council." A "confidant of Sánchez Llibre and Condal, marketing director Ramón Robert, will take a significant role in the economic department after the shareholders meeting." The role of Espanyol's Javier Sáenz, "until now the director of purchasing and human resources," could change (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 9/9).
