American-Based Haas F1 Signs Partnership To Use Full Ferrari Power Unit

The new American-based Haas F1 Team, which is gearing up to enter the sport in '16, has "signed a technical partnership with Ferrari to run the famous Italian marque’s full power unit from the outfit's debut season," according to James Galloway of SKY SPORTS. In a tie-up which has been widely expected for some time, "Gene Haas’s new Carolina-based operation will run Ferrari’s V6 turbo engine, energy-recovery systems, gearbox as well as receiving technical support when they join the grid from the season after next. Sauber and Marussia are the Italian outfit’s "existing customers." Haas said, “There is no team in Formula 1 more accomplished than Scuderia Ferrari, and no team with more history. They’ve been a part of Formula 1 from the beginning, and now they’ll be a part of Haas F1 Team’s beginning" (SKY SPORTS, 9/3).

OPEN FOR BUSINESS: AUTOSPORT reported Honda "is open to supplying customer teams in Formula 1 from 2016, after confirming its partnership with McLaren is exclusive for just one season." The Japanese manufacturer is returning to F1 for the first time since '08, "having been attracted back thanks to the introduction of the new turbo V6 engines." Honda Motorsport Chief Yasuhisa Arai said, "In 2016 or after, if some teams or partners ask us to supply them too, we will take a look at that situation. But even in 2016, McLaren will be our main partner in F1" (AUTOSPORT, 9/1).
