Event Notes: Former NFL Running Back Visits American Football Clinic In Mexico City

Former NFL Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis visited Mexico City for an American football youth clinic at Estadio Jesús Martínez Palillo. Bettis said, "It is good to see these kids involved with American football. It feels good to come here and help this process at this clinic." The clinic was the last event in Mexico City in which Bettis participated after "attending a presentation for Madden 15 and various autograph signings" (LA AFICION, 8/23). ... Glasgow "has been named as the host city" of the 2018 European Aquatics Championships. It "will be the first time Scotland has staged the championships, which include swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and open-water competitions" (BBC, 8/22). ... Tickets for the FIA Formula E Championship in Beijing on Sept. 13 went on sale. Raceday tickets, all of which offer reserved grandstand seating, can be obtained from one of three outlets. Local fans can use the www.shuiniaoticket.com platform, while spectators outside of China can visit the official website www.fiaformulae.com or Ticketmaster (Formula E). ... Libya was "removed as hosts of the 2017 African Nations Cup finals as ongoing fighting in the country delays plans to build new stadiums for the 16-team tournament." The Confederation of African Football is "inviting new bidders for the tournament." Countries wishing to host the tournament have until Sept. 30 "to send in expressions of interest" (REUTERS, 8/23). ... Team MTN-Qhubeka's six African and three European riders made history as Africa’s first ever cycling team to participate in a grand tour and "was presented at the Tour of Spain team presentation in Jerez, Spain, on Friday" (SUPER SPORT, 8/23).
